September 15-17, 2010

Teachers & Classes

Our teachers & courses will be:

Betty Lenz

Marshall, MO

Betty Lenz is a long-time teacher of many things involving quilts. She is a past winner in large quilt show contests, including Houston, Paducah, PA Heritage Quilt Show, and many, many more. Her quilts have been published many times, including appearances in quilt calendars. Betty has a wonderful quilt room and stash, and she is the “Queen Mother” of our Crazy Ladies group in Marshall.

Betty will start her class by having each student piece a basic crazy quilt on muslin. After the block is complete, she will teach you how to make beautiful ruche flowers, and other embellishments, that look difficult, but are not. You will have a block to frame, finish as a pillow or wall hanging, or use as the beginning of a crazy quilt. Many of you have seen Betty’s crazy quilts, so you know this will be a great class. Betty’s kit, with everything included, will be $17.

Ruth Tausz

Marshall, MO

Ruth Tausz is little but mighty. She has a strong interest in all things crafty, and quilts – especially crazy quilts – are at the top of her list. She loves to share, whether something she learned in a book, or time to help out with your project. You will enjoy her and the class; and you’ll have a pretty, decorated tin to take home, along with some new knowledge.

Ruth will teach Making a Crazy Quilt Covered Box. She is always up for learning and teaching something new, and in this class Ruth will show you how to make a crazy quilt cover for a tin box. The project will involve piecing, fancy seam work, and some beading and trinkets. Ruth is always full of fun, and you’re sure to enjoy her class. Ruth’s kit, including the tin box, pattern, and supplies, will cost $19.

Karen Guthrie

Marshall, MO

Karen is one of those gals that seems to do it all, and makes it look easy. She always pushes her own projects just a little bit further to make them more interesting, whether crazy or traditional quilts. She makes you ask yourself, “Why didn’t I think of doing that”? Karen is a master of the long and short stitch, and will have some beautiful samples to show and teach.

Karen will be teaching you to create an Embellished Sewing Bag using several techniques for crazy quilting. You will learn the long and short stitch by making a shaded flower, like those found on many of the Victorian crazy quilts. She’ll also teach you to make two rose embellishments out of ribbon and dye a piece of Venice lace. You will have the perfect little bag for your embroidery scissors, thimble, and needle, which can be hung around your neck, if desired. You’ll enjoy Karen’s laid back, happy attitude. Karen’s kit will include all supplies and pattern and will cost $19.
